Designed to represent the 16th century, the Great Hall was a space for leisure and entertainment. The Paines knew that the key to hosting any good party is music. They planned to include a pipe organ and designed what we would consider today as a surround sound system. The grill work in the ceiling leads to an echo chamber, which acted as the speaker for the pipe organ. The organ would have been stored in the closet on the landing behind you. Do you notice the door handles?
